Lecture Hall - Cricket [CD]

Lecture Hall debuts his first electronic album with the release of Cricket, a hybrid collection of synthesized sound. This album captures the feel of the 90's ambient techno movement by utilizing obscured sampling techniques, tape recording/processing, rubbery bass lines, and lush pads. In LH's own words, "this era of electronic music has been incredibly impactful on my music taste and I wanted to capture my own love of the genre." Warm undertones, ethereal waves, and hypnotic rhythms make up the album to capture the listener in the moment. In addition, the occasional distorted or synthetic recordings of lyrics adds to the mystery buried within the album.

The album comments on human's impact on our environment through the perspective of a cricket's life. Details, such as song vibes, sampling, song naming, and instrumentation, were carefully chosen to capture the narrative of our changing world. While I won't directly tell you what each song means, I encourage you to take time to think about how these songs make you feel and how that applies to the narrative of the album. Cricket serves both as a statement and as a form of thanks to the many artists who originally captured this genre's eerie, yet soothing vibe.
